Library Card Sign-up Month - You Make it Happen

Tuesday, September 2, 2025

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. This annual celebration is more than a campaign – it is a testament to the power of libraries, the impact of access, and most importantly, the incredible people who make it all happen. That’s you.

Each September, library staff rally their communities to sign up for a library card – opening doors to lifelong learning, recreational resources, educational opportunities, job support, and community engagement. And behind every new cardholder is a passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly staff member who made them feel welcome.

Whether you are organizing outreach events, helping library users discover your library’s digital offerings, creating eye-catching displays, or simply offering a kind smile at the front desk, you are the reason Library Card Sign-up Month matters.

Library staff, library boards, and volunteers foster a connection with the community. You spark curiosity in new patrons, empower students with the tools they need for the school year, bring confidence to job seekers, and make everyone feel they belong in our library spaces.

Your efforts go beyond this month. Every library card is an invitation to open a world of possibilities.

Please take a moment to recognize and celebrate the critical role you play. Library Card Sign-up Month is about strengthening our communities, but it is also about celebrating Wisconsin library staff who make the library a place where everyone feels empowered to learn, grow, and connect.

On behalf of all of us at the Bureau of Libraries, thank you for your hard work and commitment to your community. Let us keep spreading the word, welcoming new faces, and showing everyone what a library card – and the people behind it – can do.

Thank you for everything you do!
Ben Miller, State Librarian
