WISE Data Elements

To meet state and federal reporting requirements, as applicable, public school districts and private schools participating in the Choice program must submit student information to DPI. Here is a list of data elements with links to descriptions of each. Also included are lists or tables of expected values where needed.

Academic Subject

Public Schools

The Academic Subject data element records the academic subjects that are part of a district's graduation plan, such as Math and English.

Achievement Category

Choice Schools, Public Schools

Achievement Category refers to the category of certificate or diploma earned by a student. This data element is required for Choice schools.

Actual Discipline Action Length

Public Schools

Actual Discipline Action Length indicates the actual length in school days of a student's disciplinary assignment

Address

Choice Schools, Private Schools, Public Schools

The full address of the agency listed in the School Directory application.

Affiliation

Private Schools

Affiliation refers to a question asked on the PI-1207 Private School Report, where a private school indicates if its school is religious based or not religious based.

Agency Code

Public Schools

Agency code is a unique, four or eight-digit code that is assigned to each independent charter school and to each public school district, and all public (including district-authorized charter schools) and private schools geographically located within its boundaries. It consists of a four-digit LEA or district code connected by a hyphen to a four-digit school code.

Agency Name

The full name of the local education agency accessing the School Directory Management Portal application. This name will also be reflected in the School Directory Public Portal application.

Ancestry/Ethnic Origins

Choice Schools, Public Schools

This data element describes racial or ethnic subgroups that a student belongs to, which helps provide better support to students from marginalized groups. Not required for public or Choice schools but highly recommended.

Application Open/Closed

Choice Schools, Private Schools, Public Schools

This data element refers to an indicator icon on the Wisconsin School Directory Management Portal application, informing users if it is available for them to make changes, or if the application is closed for annual maintenance. The Wisconsin School Directory Management Portal application usually closes for a few weeks between mid-December until mid-January.

Area Code of Assignment

Four-digit code denoting the staff member's general realm of assignment and related work subject/tasks

Athletic Conference

Choice Schools, Private Schools, Public Schools

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) is the regulatory agency for all high school sports in Wisconsin. There are 49 athletic ‘conferences,’ collections of similar-sized schools located within a reasonable distance of each other, across Wisconsin.

Attempt Status Descriptor

Public Schools

Attempt Status Descriptor indicates whether a student has been enrolled in a section for the minimum amount of time to receive an outcome.

Attendance

Choice Schools, Public Schools

Attendance is contact between a student and a teacher during which district-supervised PK-12 educational services are provided. Attendance policies are set by the school district, and the schools in the district must adhere to these attendance policies. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Barrier to Internet Access in Residence

Choice Schools, Public Schools

This data element records whether a student faces a barrier to access the Internet in their primary residence. Not required for public or Choice schools but highly recommended.

Behavior Descriptor

Public Schools

The Behavior data element provides a list of behaviors. One of these must be selected to describe the action done by the student who caused the school discipline incident. Behaviors are ranked in order of severity with handgun being the most severe.

Behavior Detailed Description

Public Schools

For firearm-related incidents which have one or more associated disciplines, but no disciplinary action is an expulsion, this description must provide the reason why the student did not receive the mandatory expulsion.

Bilingual Program

Bilingual Program refers to whether or not the staff member teaches in a state or locally-funded bilingual education program

Birth city, county, country, location and state are optional data elements, primarily used to assist with identification and student matching.

Birth Country

Birth date is the date the student was born, including day, month, and year. Month, day, and year of birth shall be submitted using the mm/dd/yyyy format. WISEid is considered the official source of birth date. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Birth city, county, country, location and state are optional data elements, primarily used to assist with identification and student matching.

Birth State

Career Education Programs

Public Schools

CTE Programs is an unordered collection of student CTE program associations to the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in which the student participates and has a CTE Concentration Summary.

Certificated Programs Status Type

Public Schools

Certified Program Status Type indicates a student's progress toward earning a certificate within the Certified Career Education programs.

Choice School Program Participant

Choice Schools

This Yes/No identifier indicates that a student is attending a private school participating in the Milwaukee, Racine, or Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. This element must NOT be submitted by public schools. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Civics Exam

Public Schools

This data element records whether passing a civics exam is a requirement for high school graduation in the submitting district.

Clarifying Information on the Definition of a School

A school is an administrative unit dedicated to and designed to impart skills and knowledge to students. A school is organized to efficiently deliver sequential instruction from one or more teachers.

Class Period Name

Public Schools

Name defines the portion of a typical daily session in which students receive instruction in a specified subject (e.g., morning, sixth period, block period, or AB schedules).

Classroom Identification Code

Public Schools

Classroom Identification Code defines a unique number or alphanumeric code assigned to a room by a school, school system, state, or other agency or entity.

Classroom Position Descriptor

Public Schools

Classroom Position Descriptor defines the type of position the staff member holds in a specific class/section.

Cluster Title

Public Schools

Cluster Title (formerly Career Pathway Type) is the career cluster for the Vocational/Career Tech concentrator career path.

Community Service

Public Schools

This data element records the total number of hours of community service required for a student to graduate from high school in the submitting district.

Consent to Evaluate

Public Schools

Parental Consent is required before Special Ed evaluations can begin. The date upon which this consent is obtained begins a 60-day timeline by which the initial evaluations must be completed.

Contact Information

DPI requires contact information to be provided via School Directory, including phone number (including area code), fax number, email address, and the web address (i.e., the URL) for LEAs. This is collected both at the agency level and at the school/building level.

Coordinated Early Intervening Services

Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CEIS) are intended for students who have not been identified as students with disabilities under IDEA and who do not yet have an IEP but who are determined to need additional academic and behavioral supports to succeed in general education. Coordinated Early Intervening Services may be used for students in kindergarten through grade 12, with a particular emphasis on students in kindergarten through grade three.

Count Date Name: Pupil Count Pilot Program

Count Date Name refers to the name of the dates when pupil counts (headcounts) occur to obtain student status. For example, the Third Friday of September.

Count Date Receiving Services Descriptor: Pupil Count Program

Count Date Receiving Services Descriptor refers to the status of a student on a specific count date (e.g., Present).

Count Date Status

Count Date Status indicates whether a student is eligible to be included in Public Enrollment counts for the Third Friday of September count date and/or the October 1 child count. See Receiving Services on a Count DateThis data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Count Inclusion: 3rd Friday of September

Count Date Inclusion denotes whether a student is enrolled and receiving services to be eligible for credit on the count date. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Course Transcript

A reference to the related DPI-populated Course resource, including its information, such as the ID of the Educational Organization that defines the curriculum and courses offered, often the LEA or school, or the actual code that identifies the organization of subject matter and related learning experiences provided for the instruction of students.

Credential Type (Diploma Type)

Credential Type refers to the kind of completion certificate the student attained after completing high school. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Credits

The Credits data element records the number of credits required in a specific academic subject for a student to graduate.

CTE Concentrator

A CTE Concentrator is a secondary student in grade 11 or 12 who has completed (passed) a minimum of two CTE courses within a career pathway (career cluster) and who is enrolled in continuing CTE course(s) in that career pathway during their time in high school.

CTE Department/Program Areas Type

Public Schools

The CTE Department (formerly Program Areas Type) represents represents one of the six career and technical education departments.

CTE Participant

Public Schools

A student is a CTE participant if the student was enrolled in one or more CTE courses in the reporting year and completed (passed) at least one CTE course.

Current Status

Shows whether the district or school is currently open or closed.

Date of Birth

The student's date of birth. See Birth Date.

Date of Board Approval

Date of Board Approval data element refers to the date on which a public school/district school board approved the District Library Plan.

Disability

Reporting Disability is indicated in the pupil’s individualized education plan (IEP) or individualized service plan (ISP). Only one primary reportable disability can be submitted to WISEdata. The impairment that is most disabling shall be reported as the primary reportable disability. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Discipline Action ID

Unique identifier of the Discipline Action resource

Discipline Action Identifier

Public Schools

Identifier assigned by the local education organization to the discipline action. 

Discipline Date

Public Schools

The date on which the discipline action started. The discipline date must occur on or after the incident date. 

Discipline Descriptor (Action)

Public Schools

Discipline Descriptor is a type of action, such as removal from the classroom, used to discipline the student who caused the discipline incident.

Discipline Incident ID

Unique identifier of the Discipline Incident resource

Discipline Incident Identifier

Public Schools

A locally assigned unique identifier (within the school or school district) to identify each specific incident or occurrence. 

Discipline Incident Reference

Discipline Length

 Number of school days during which student is removed for this school term, incident, and disciplinary action.

District (Submitting District)

For WISEdata collection purposes, the data element District (also known as Submitting District) is the code for the agency submitting the WISEdata record.

District Library Media Specialist

District Library Media Specialist is actually three distinct data elements in WISEadmin Portal within the District Library Plan; however, they work together.

District Library Plan Link

Public Schools

District Library Plan Link data element refers to the URL for the webpage that displays a school/district District Library Plan.

District of Residence (Resident District)

Public Schools

Resident District is based on where the student typically sleeps at night. This may be at home, in an institution, or in any other facility.

District Program

Public Schools

Educational programs the district participates in.

District/School of Accountability

Public Schools

District Accountable is the district accountable for student outcomes, which will generally be the district submitting to WISEdata.

Dual Enrollment

Public Schools

Dual enrollment (DE) includes a variety of programs through which high school students are enrolled simultaneously in both high school and college to earn both high school and college credit. DE is reported as part of school and district report cards and general Career and Technical Education data used for career pathway development.

Early Reinstatement Conditions

Public Schools

Following an expulsion, this data element applies if the student had early reinstatement conditions to return to school prior to the end of the expulsion. 

Economically Disadvantaged Status

An economically disadvantaged student is a student who is identified by Direct Certification, who is a member of a household that meets the income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), or who is identified by an alternate mechanism, such as the alternate household income form. Every student in every grade in every school is to be queried each year to find economically disadvantaged status. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Education Organization Reference

A reference to the related education organization resource, i.e., the Local Education Agency ID.

Educational Environment

Public Schools

Educational Environment reflects the extent to which students with disabilities are educated with their non-disabled peers. It does not reflect the amount of special education services and/or related services. This field is required for all students with disabilities for WISEdata collection records.

Educational Service (PK)

Public Schools

Educational Service is a statement provided on the School Directory Management Portal that allows public schools to select whether or not they provide PK services.

Effective Begin and End Dates

Choice Schools, Public Schools

The effective dates are the entry and exit dates when a student receives educational services from a school during a period of continuous enrollment at a school and is designated by WISEdata logic if overlapping enrollments occur. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

EL Served

Public Schools

As of the 2019-20 school year, this data element is not required. ELL Served indicates if a student who is an English Language Learner (i.e., English Language Proficiency code 1-5) is served in English language instruction educational programs designed for English Language Learners (ELLs) and if the program is funded by Title III. 

Eligibility Determination Date

Public Schools

Eligibility Evaluation date refers to the date when the determination of whether or not a disability category and need for specially designed instruction was made.

Eligibility Evaluation Type

Public Schools

Eligibility Evaluation Type for Indicator 11 always refers to an initial special education evaluation. Students obtaining an initial evaluation have never been evaluated for special education services before. LEAs must have parental consent prior to evaluating a student.

Email Address

WISEsecure authorization link from email address to WISEid, Local person ID, and Local Person ID Key Type. This data element is not required for Choice schools.

English Language Proficiency Code (ELP)

English language proficiency (ELP) classifications are defined in PI 13.08 Wis. Admin Code. Students with English language proficiency classifications of 1-5 are considered Limited English Proficient (LEP). For students in grade levels KG to 12, the value reported is expected to correspond to the results from the most recent administration of the ACCESS for ELLs exam. This data element is optional for Choice schools not receiving Title III funding; Choice schools receiving Title III funding are required to report ELP.

Enrollment and Exit Date

The school enrollment date is the date a student initially receives educational services from a school during a period of continuous enrollment at a school. An exit date is the date a student withdraws or exits a school and no longer receives services. A separate enrollment and exit withdraw date pair is required for each continuous period of enrollment at any given school. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Enrollment Type

The enrollment type describes how a student is enrolled at a school, whether as a primary or non-primary enrollment. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Entity ID

Public Schools

Th Entity ID is a DPI-assigned Educator File Identification Number.

Evaluation Complete Indicator

Public Schools

Evaluation Complete Indicator is a ‘True’ / ‘False’ value entered into your SIS or Special Education portal to indicate whether or not the initial special education evaluation has been completed or not.

Evaluation Delay Reason

Public Schools

Evaluation Delay Reason requires one of three reasons to be provided to explain why the timely initial special education evaluation was not completed within the provided 60-day timeline. If your situation does not match one of these reasons, then enter an Evaluation Late reason. Do not enter both. 

Evaluation Late Reason

Public Schools

Evaluation Late Reason requires an explanation as to why the timely initial special education evaluation was not completed within the provided 60-day timeline. Evaluation Late reason implies that the evaluation has been completed, but it exceeded the 60-day timeline and did not apply to one of the three Evaluation Delay Reasons.

Exit Type

Exit type describes the circumstances under which the student exited from a school. Exit type is required any time there is an exit date. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Expected Transfer Response

Public Schools

When Exit Type=ETC and an inter-district transfer was expected (i.e., the expected transfer district is not the submitting district), then WISEdata requires the expected transfer district to respond to the question "Did the student move to your district on or before the count date?" 

Expected Transfer School/District

Public Schools

When Exit Type=ETC and an inter-district transfer was expected (i.e., the expected transfer district is not the submitting district), then WISEdata requires the school/district anticipating and/or receiving the incoming student to be entered in the field for Expected Transfer School/District.

FAPE-Responsible School/District

Public Schools

Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) responsible school fields are required for data submission and should always be completed. The school/district identified as FAPE responsible will be held accountable.

Final Salary Code

Code that coordinates to the staff member's final salary as reported by the agency

First Day of School/Last Day of School

Public Schools

First Day of School (FDS) and Last Day of School (LDS) refer to the school calendar dates (Month / Day / Year) that indicate the beginning and end of a school year. This information is displayed on the School Directory Public Portal and is highly sought and utilized by various organizations, families, vendors, sports conferences, etc.

Food Service Eligibility Begin & End Dates

The Student School Food Service Program Association Begin Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student first began receiving food services, or the beginning of the student's enrollment period for the school year being reported. The Student School Food Service Program Association End Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student exited the food service program or stopped receiving services for the school year being reported. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Food Services Eligibility

Food service eligibility is an indicator of whether or not a student receives full-priced, reduced-priced, or free lunch under NSLP or has an unknown eligibility status.

FTE

Public Schools

Number that reflects the amount of work a staff member will complete at a particular agency in a school year

Full Time Equivalency: Pupil Count Program

Public Schools

Full Time Equivalency (FTE) is the full time equivalent ratio for the student’s assignment to a school for services or instruction.

Gender

Choice Schools, Public Schools

Sex Type in WISEdata, known as Gender in WISEid and WISEdash, shall be submitted as Male, Female, or Nonbinary. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Grade Level Placement

Choice Schools, Private Schools, Public Schools

Grade level is the level of the educational program studied by a student or instructed by teaching staff. When grade level changes during a period of enrollment, report the grade level at the time of exit. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Grade Type

Public Schools

Grade Type  clarifies which period of time or for what purpose a grade was given, such as Exam, Final Grade, or Progress Report. 

Grades Offered

Choice Schools, Private Schools, Public Schools

Which grades the school or district provides education services for.

Grading Period Begin and End Date

Public Schools

Month, day, and year of the first day and the last day of the grading period.

Grading Period Descriptor

Public Schools

Descriptor defines the name of the grading period during the school year in which the grade is offered (e.g., 1st cycle, 1st semester).

Grading Period School ID

Public Schools

The unique identifier of the resource assigned to a school by the State Education Agency (SEA).

Grading Period Total Instructional Days

Public Schools

The total days available for educational instruction during the grading period, such as 180.

Graduation Plan Type

Public Schools

This data element records the type of graduation plan a district is submitting. All districts should submit Standard for this field.

Highest Degree

Code that corresponds to the highest level of education the staff member has attained

Homeless Primary Nighttime Residence Type

Public Schools

Homeless Primary Nighttime Residence Type denotes the kind of impermanent housing or lack of housing where the homeless student stays at night.

Homeless Status

Public Schools

Homeless status is an indication of whether a student is homeless. Homeless students lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

Homeless Unaccompanied Youth

Public Schools

Homeless Unaccompanied Youth is a required field to state whether or not homeless children or youth are in physical custody of a parent or guardian.

IAC Code type

Public Schools

DPI IAC to Cluster List. IAC Code Type identifies the number and description of the CIP Code associated with the career pathway and student CTE program.

IDEA Eligibility

Public Schools

The Student Special Education Program Association is expected only for IDEA Eligible students. This field is expected to be ‘Yes’.

IDEA Indicator

Public Schools

The IDEA Indicator is a True / False value box indicating whether the student who was evaluated met criteria to qualify for special education or not.

IDEA Indicator (Part B)

Public Schools

Use the code value “B” to indicate if the initial special ed evaluation was completed under IDEA Part B. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part B provides funds for special education services for students aged 3-21.

IEP/ISP Begin Date and IEP/ISP End Date

Public Schools

The IEP Begin Date is the implementation date as documented on the notice of placement of the most recent IEP (Forms P1 or P2).

The IEP End Date is the end date of services listed in the most recent IEP’s program summary (Model I-4), usually one year less one day from the IEP begin date.

Immigrant T3

Public Schools

Immigrant (Title III) is an indication of whether or not a student qualifies as an immigrant under Title III, Section 3301 (6) of the ESSA.

Implementation Year From/To

Public Schools

Implementation Year To and Implementation Year From are two distinct data elements in WISEadmin Portal within the District Library Plan; however, they work together. These dates are provided from a dynamic, drop-down field in WISEadmin Portal.

Incident Date

Public Schools

Date the incident resulting in removal occurred. The incident date must occur within the reporting school year and within an active enrollment period for the associated school.

Industry Recognized Credentials

Public Schools

An industry-recognized credential (IRC) is a verification of a student’s qualification or competence through a technical education program. IRCs are reported as part of school and district report cards and general Career and Technical Education data used for career pathway development.

Internet Access in Residence

Choice Schools, Public Schools

This data element records whether a student has access to the Internet in their primary residence. Not required for public or Choice schools but highly recommended.

Internet Access Type in Residence

Choice Schools, Public Schools

This data element records what type of Internet service is used in the student’s primary residence. Not required for public or Choice schools but highly recommended.

Internet Performance in Residence

Choice Schools, Public Schools

This data element records the reliability of a student's Internet access in their primary residence. Not required for public or Choice schools but highly recommended.

Kindergarten Schedule

Public Schools

This data element refers to options that must be selected on the School Directory Management Portal application on the Kindergarten Schedule screen. Information selected in this application is displayed in the School Directory Public Portal and informs families of options available within Wisconsin schools.

Language Instruction Assessment Year

Public Schools

The Language Instruction Assessment Year data element is the year that the student took the assessment that determines the student's current English language proficiency code.

Language Instruction Begin & End Dates

Public Schools

The Language Instruction Begin Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student first began receiving language instruction services. The Language Instruction End Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student exited the language instruction program or stopped receiving services for the school year being reported.

Language Instruction Monitoring Year

Public Schools

English language learners who are now proficient (EL code 6) are monitored for two years on content achievement. The Language Instruction Monitoring Year data element describes whether a student is in their first or second year of monitoring.

Language Instruction Primary Service

Public Schools

The Language Instruction Primary Service data element indicates which of the language instruction services a student receives is the primary service.

Language Instruction Services

Public Schools

The Language Instruction Services data element describes which services an English language learner is receiving.

Language of Instruction

Public Schools

Language of Instruction data element is a roster indicator. LEAs should send the primary language in which instruction is delivered for this data element.

Last Evaluation Date

Public Schools

The Last Evaluation Date is the date of the last special education evaluation that was not waived.

LEA Assignment Code

Optional, unique field used by an agency for verification purposes to make sure the correct local staff record is linked to the appropriate record submitted and used by DPI

LEA Assignment Title

Required field an agency uses to include the staff member's local assignment title as it's known at that particular location

LEA Use

An optional field used for anything districts would like to add about the staff member

Learning Modality Type

As of the 2024-25 school year, this data element is not required. Learning Modality Type is defined as the method of student participation in instruction: In-person, Remote, or Hybrid. 

Legal Name

Legal Name is the entity name associated with the federal employer identification number (FEIN) on file with the IRS.

Letter Grade Earned

Final or interim (grading period) indicator of a student's performance in a class as submitted by the instructor

Link to Board Meeting

Link to Board Meeting refers to the URL containing the School Board meeting minutes during which a school board approved a District Library Plan.

Local Contract ID

Unique field used by an agency for verification purposes to make sure DPI uses the correct local staff contract record

Local Course Code

Public Schools

Local course code defines the the LEA-assigned local code that identifies the organization of subject matter and related learning experiences provided for the instruction of students.

Local Course Title

Public Schools

Local course title defines the descriptive name given to a course of study offered in the school, if different from the SCED Course Title.

Local Education Agency (LEA) Code

Low grade is the grade level available to the youngest students attending school, as collected in School Directory. High grade is the grade level available to the oldest students to attend school, as collected in School Directory.

Max Age Year

Max Age Year is the final school year for a student's inclusion in SPR and other statistics (i.e., student is 21 before the beginning of the next school term).

Medium of Instruction Type

Medium of Instruction Type defines the media through which teachers provide instruction to students and how students and teachers communicate about instructional matters, for example, technology-based instruction in classroom correspondence, face-to-face instruction, virtual/online, distance learning center-based instruction, etc.

Membership: Pupil Count Pilot Program

Membership is a statistic, a number, derived from comparing resident enrollment to the full-time equivalency (FTE) of each enrolled student, used to determine accountability reporting connected to state aid for funding.

Migrant Status

Migrant Status is an indication of whether or not a student is a migrant student. Districts must have records on file verifying the student's federal eligibility.

Miscellaneous Required Credits

Modified Term for Firearms

This data element identifies if the duration of the expulsion has been modified from the federally-required one year of expulsion for a fire arms incident.

Months in School/District/State

Continuous (or near continuous) enrollment of a student in a school, measured in months. Months accumulate from school term to school term. If during any school term or successive school terms a student exits then re-enrolls at the same school and the interruption in enrollment status exceeds a month, then Months in School starts over at zero.

Multiple Birth Status

Multiple birth status indicates whether a student was born as part of a multiple birth, such as twins or triplets. This data element should be submitted as True or False. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Native Language

Native Language is the language or dialect first learned by an individual or first used by the Parent/Guardian with a child. This term is often referred to as primary language. This field is required for WISEdata records if either English Language Proficiency Code = 1 - 5 or Immigrant (Title III)= Y (regardless of Grade Level).

Non-High School Health Education Credits

This data element records the number of health education credits required in a district's submitted graduation plan that are taken in grades 7 or 8.

Nonprofit Status

Nonprofit status refers to a question asked on the PI-1207 Private School Report, where a private school indicates if it is not for profit, or whether it is for profit.

The ACCESS for ELLs Overall Composite Proficiency Level Score is a calculated field in WISEdata and is also known as the Overall Composite Proficiency Level. It represents the prior year ACCESS for ELLs score used to determine a student’s current year English Language Proficiency code (ELP code).

Parent in Military

Parent in Military is a student characteristic that indicates that the student has a parent or guardian who is a member of the armed forces on active duty, serves full-time National Guard duty, or is a traditional member of the National Guard or Reserve.

Primary Service Provider (of Special Education Services)

Pupil Count Pilot Program

The Pilot Project for the Membership Pupil Count Collection (referred to more simply as ‘Pupil Count’) through WiSFiP is being tested during the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 school year to ease the burden of data collection from users associated with the PI 1563. Multiple LEAs across the state are participating.

Race and Ethnicity Data

A student is only counted in a single racial/ethnic group. Students identified by two or more races (not Hispanic) are reported in the ‘Two or More Races’ category. A two-part question is used to determine to which group the student belongs or with which race/ethnicity he or she most identifies. It is required to answer both parts of the question. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Reason Exited Special Education

Reason Exited is a field that describes why a student's special education record (sSEPA) has an end date. 

Receiving Services on a Count Date

Count Date Status denotes whether a student is enrolled and receiving services to be eligible for inclusion in the count date. This data element is required for Choice and public schools.

Repeat Grade Indicator

Public Schools

Promotion occurs when a student has made sufficient progress over the course of the school year to advance to a higher grade level. WISEdata collects a repeat grade indicator. The school in which the student completed the school term must identify whether a student is expected to repeat the same grade level in the following school year.

Report Card Selection

Choice Schools

Choice schools should have a current selection identified (i.e., 'opt in' or 'opt out' ) regarding the Private School - All Student Report Card. This data element is required for Choice schools.

Residency Begin and End Date: Pupil Count Pilot Program

Residency begin and end date is the month, day, and year on which the student began and exited the residency status.

Residency Status Collection: Pupil Count Pilot Program

Residency Status Collection is a 'mini collection' consisting of residency status, resident LEA ID, residency begin date/s and residency end date/s. These details are stored under a student's enrollment record in WISEdata Portal.

Schedule refers to a question asked on the PI-1207 Private School Report, asking if a school=is classified as a residential/boarding school, a day school, or both.

School Availability on the Map

School Board-Approved Alternative Educational Program

School Board-Approved Alternative Educational Program refers to whether or not the assignment is part of an approved alternative education program.

School Category/Program

School Category/Program is a filter on School Directory Public Portal. It allows search results to be refined by a school's category and/or the programs it offers. This is different from School Type, which refers to the grade levels offered within a school (e.g., elementary or high school).

School in Resident District

Public Schools

School in resident district is the school the student would attend in his or her resident district. School in Resident District must be provided if the Resident District is not the district submitting to WISEdata or the student has an IDEA-eligible disability.

Serious Bodily Injury

Serious Bodily Injury involves a substantial risk of death; extreme physical pain; protracted and obvious disfigurement; or protracted loss or impairment of the function of a bodily member, organ, or faculty (18 USC Section 1365 (3)(h)). SpEd EDFacts Federal Exiting Categories

EDFacts Federal Exiting Categories provide specific categories for students with disabilities (IDEA) who are ages 14-21, who were in special education at the start of a reporting period, who were also not in special education at the end of a reporting period. The federal reporting period is July 1 - June 30. This is a unique set of categories, separate from the “Reason Exited Special Education” data element.

Staff Section Associations Begin Date refers to the month, day, and year of a teacher's assignment to a section. The Staff Section Associations End Date refers to the month, day, and year of the last day of a staff member's assignment to the section.

State Assessment Type

State Endorsed Regional Career Pathway Status Type

As of the 2019-20 school year, this data element is not required.  State Endorsed Regional Career Pathway Status Type is a specific state outlined program that combines specific regional requirements for sequence of HS classes, dual credit class(es), IRCs, and work-based learning.

State statutes refers to a section of the PI-1207 Private School Report, where a private school is asked to confirm it meets the requirements of a private school under Wis. Stat. § 118.165(1).

Student Address

Student Address is an optional data element that records the primary address where a student currently resides. This data element is conditionally required for Choice schools as it pertains to student participation in summer EBT.

Student CTE Program Associations Begin & End Dates

Student CTE Program Associations Begin Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student first received services as part of Career Education. The Student CTE Program Associations End Date refers to the month, day, and year on which the student exited the program or stopped receiving services.

Student Discipline Incident Association ID

Student Education Organization Responsibility Association (SEORA)

Unenrolled students (i.e., students who are not yet age three) requiring data submission will need an alternative record, a record of responsibility - this record is SEORA. For enrolled and unenrolled students, the Student Unique ID must be a WISEid. The SEORA record cannot be submitted to WISEdata without a WISEid

Homeless program association is an indication of whether a student is homeless. Homeless students lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

Student Homeless Program Association Begin & End Dates

Homeless Begin Date identifies the first date within an enrollment that a student lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. The Homeless End Date is the date when a student secures permanent residence and is no longer identified as homeless.

Student Participation Code

Public Schools

Role or participation type of the student in a discipline incident. For the 2023-24 school year, the student participation code ‘perpetrator’ is no longer required by DPI. This data element may be submitted, but it will not display on WISEdata. 

Student School Association Reference

Reference to the student school association (sSA) in which the incident date occurred.

Student Section Association Begin and End Date

Public Schools

Begin Date includes month, day, and year of the student's entry or assignment to the section. End Date includes month, day, and year of the withdrawal or exit of the student from the section.

Student Special Education Program Begin and End Date

Public Schools

Begin date for the Student Special Education Program Association (sSEPA) shall be the first day the student begins receiving services under the current IEP/ISP of the first day of school, whichever is most recent. End date may be left blank. When information in the Student Special Education Program Association changes, an end date must be entered in the current sSEPA as the day prior to the change. Also, a new sSEPA with the begin date of the change must be submitted.
