Immunization Registry Integration
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) provides an API integration with the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) for eligible LEAs. This integration uses existing Ed-Fi API connections to securely request and retrieve immunization records from the Department of Health Services (DHS), delivering them directly to the school’s Student Information System (SIS). Immunization data, including vaccine groups, codes, administration dates, and other relevant details, is automatically imported into the Student Information System (SIS). By automating this process, schools save significant staff time and improve the accuracy and completeness of immunization records.
Eligibility: This integration is an optional (opt-in) feature available to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) that report data through the WISE Ed-Fi API. Not eligible: Private schools not participating in the Parental Choice program, virtual schools, and independent charter schools.
Required Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) Setup
Each individual school must have an active account in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR), which must be set up at the school level, not at the district level. The WIR account setup can happen prior to your vendor completing integration work.
Opt in to Immunization Data Sharing
If you elect to use this Immunization registry integration, please follow the steps below:
1. Log into WISEhome and select WISEadmin Portal from the list of applications.
- If you don't see WISEadmin Portal on WISEhome, you can request access through WISEhome. Note that you will need the District Admin role in order to access the opt-in acknowledgment. You can request a specific role in the comments of your access request in WISEhome.
2. In WISEadmin Portal, select Administrator Acknowledgment.
Opt-In Reminder:
You only need to opt in to Immunization Data Sharing in the WISEadmin Portal once. This setting remains active unless it is manually changed to opt out.

3. Scroll down to the Immunization Data Sharing panel.
4. Select District Opt-in and click Save.

How to Enable Immunization Integration
After your schools are set up in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) and the opt-in option is selected in WISEadmin, the final step is to activate the immunization integration within your Student Information System (SIS).
Please contact your SIS vendor for detailed instructions on enabling this feature. Currently, the following SIS vendors and products support immunization registry integration:
-
FACTS
-
Infinite Campus
-
JMC
- PowerSchool
-
Skyward (Student Management Suite (SMS 2.0) & Qmlativ)
Need help?
To streamline the setup process, please confirm the following steps are complete:
- Opt-in to Immunization Data Sharing in the WISEadmin Portal (Instructions above). Opting in to Immunization Data Sharing is required only once—it is not an annual task.
- Enable immunization integration within your SIS
NOTE: Private schools not participating in the Parental Choice program, virtual schools, and independent charter schools are not eligible to use this interface.
For troubleshooting, please contact your SIS vendor first. They are your primary point of support and will coordinate with the appropriate state departments as needed.
