About the Data

The Career Education and Coursework (CE-C) dashboard provides two options for dashboard viewing: Student Participation Count and Outcome Count. Student Participation Count looks at the unique student count of participants in a program, meaning that students are not duplicated in any of the counts. Outcome Count shows the number of programs participated in by students, meaning that a single student could be represented more than once in a given program count.

If you are looking to analyze your CTE data, please use the Perkins dashboard

The CE-C Student Participation Count Snapshot Dashboard includes one Data Quality Indicator based on the current view of the data.

CE-C Student Participation Count Snapshot Dash Data Quality Indicator

1. School with No Career Ed Participants
This indicator displays the number of schools that include grade levels in the 9 thru 12 range but have not submitted any career education participants in either certified or non-certified programs. Cert/NonCert are labels typically used in a SIS to remind schools to complete one extra step of confirming the status of a Certified opportunity. Use the crosstabs Program Name/Type to identify student counts in Certified programs in the data. In your SIS review the students in these programs. Please ensure Certitificated Program Status Type, also referred to as Completion Status, is checked as the final step for each students Certified program area. Certified career education refers to Work-based Learning and Industry Recognized Credentials.

The CE-C Outcome Count Snapshot Dashboard includes one Data Quality Indicator based on the current view of the data.

Definitions of Applicable Crosstab Data Filters

The most commonly occurring filters are defined in detail on the WISEdash for Districts Snapshot Dashboard page. These include:

  • Acctbl Sch/ool

  • Att Sch/ool Name

  • Disability

  • EL/status

  • ELP Code

  • Gender

  • Grade

  • Homeless

  • Race

  • SPED

In addition to some or all of the above listed filters, ‘available data’ filters that specifically apply to the CE-C dashboard are:

  • Certificated Program Status - A checkbox indicator, denoting a student’s progress toward earning a certificate within the Certified Career Education programs. Options include: Completed and Received Certificate, or N/A.

  • CTE Concentrator - A yes/no indicator stating if a student is identified as a ‘concentrator’ or not. A student is identified as a concentrator if they completed at least two CTE courses in a single career pathway throughout high school. Concentrator details should be submitted only for students in grades 11 and 12.

  • CTE Graduate - A yes/no indicator stating whether a student is a CTE graduate or not. A CTE Graduate is a CTE Concentrator student who has graduated from high school with a regular high school diploma

  • CTE Participant - A yes/no indicator stating whether a student is a CTE participant or not. A CTE participant was enrolled in one or more CTE courses in the reporting year and completed (passed) at least one CTE course.

  • Nontraditional Occupation - A yes/no/’NULL’ (blank) indicator denotes that the IAC code and gender of the CTE Concentrator is a "nontraditional occupation". Nontraditional occupations are ones where individuals from one gender comprise less than 25 percent of the individuals employed in the Career Pathway.

  • Program Name - Checkbox indicator providing names of certified and non-certified career education program types. Options are listed on the CTE Programs data element page. Use the PDF on that data element page to select the best option for Program Name.

  • Program Type - Program type refers to whether or not a career education program is a Certificated Career Education Program or a Non-Certificated Career Education Program. Certified programs allow students an opportunity to earn a certification; non-certified programs cannot provide certifications.

  • State Endorsed CP Status - This data element is deprecated. It will only show ’NULL’ (blank) results.

Frequently Asked Questions about Snapshot CE-C Data

1. What does the CE-C snapshot dashboard show me in general? The Student Participation Count and the Outcome Count dashboard both provide the tools to help districts prepare for the Career Education and Coursework snapshot (if any). The Current View (green) chart displays a single year of data, as determined by the current view year filter located in the left hand side ‘hamburger’ (three stacked lines) menu. The snapshot view (purple) chart displays a single year of Roster snapshot data as determined by the Snapshot View Year filter, also located in the left hand side drop down menu.

2. What does the Student Participation Count crosstabs show me, specifically?

  • Technical Skills Attainment - Provides information on membership and completion status, when available, in one of the following Program Types: "Non Certified Career Education Program" or "Certified Career Education Program". Within the certified and non-certified career education program type, several program names exist. For each program type and program name combination, a student will appear in the count only once per school with the highest level of completion or certification earned across all programs of that combination.
  • Advanced Credit Opportunities - Shows information about student enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses as well as enrollment in dual enrollment opportunities. A student will appear in the count only once per school with the most favorable (highest grade) passing status earned for each advanced credit opportunity type.
  • Arts Student Participation - May be used to disaggregate student participation in the arts NCES subject area into the major areas of study. A student will appear once per school in the count for each area of study.

3. What does the Outcome Count crosstabs show me, specifically?

  • Technical Skills Attainment - provides information on membership in one of the following Program Types: "Non Certified Career Education Program", "Certified Career Education Program" or "State Endorsed Regional Career Pathway Program" (SERCP). SERCP data is available for 2018-19 and 2019-20 only. Be aware, student counts can be deceiving as a student can be a member of more than one program and a student can be shown even if the student is no longer a member of a given program. Use "Certificated Program Status" to help determine the status of the student.

  • Advanced Credit Opportunities - Shows information about student enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate courses as well as enrollment in dual enrollment opportunities. Again, counts can be deceiving as a student can be counted more than once if: A student has more than one enrollment in any of these categories, more than one passing status was recorded for the student/course, the student has more than one enrollment record in a course OR the schools course structure allows for multiple student/course enrollments for the same course.
