Topic Dashboard by Subgroup

This method allows you to compare multiple subgroups' data for a particular topic. For example, you can analyze participation in different types of arts (e.g., dance, theater, music, etc.) by students in different disability subgroups (e.g. autism, deafblind, emotional behavioral disability, etc.). Then, you can add additional filters to these dashboards. For example, if you initially broke Arts Participation into disability subgroups, you might choose EL as a secondary filter to find out whether students with disabilities who are also English language learners are enrolled in the arts at the same rate as students with disabilities who are already proficient in English.

1. From the WISEhome and WISEsecure Login Information page, log in to WISEhome.
2. Open WISEdash for Districts.
3. Click Dashboards.
4. Click Topics.
5. Select the dashboard of your choice that includes "by Subgroup" in its name.
6. If there is a message below the filters that says, "You must select values from the following filters before the dashboard can be displayed," click Filter Data.
7. Click the name of the filter mentioned in the message, such as the District filter.
8. Select or search for a value from the filter's drop-down list.
9. Once you have added values for all required filters, click Filter Data again.
10. Click Group By.
11. Select the value for which you want the data broken into subgroups. Options include:
    • Disability
    • Disability Status
    • Economic Status
    • EL (English Learner) Status
    • Gender
    • Grade level
    • Homeless Status
    • Migrant Status
    • Race/Ethnicity
    • Student Cohort
12. Click Filter Data to further filter the data.
    • For example, if you first chose the Disability filter, you might next click EL Status and select EL to find out how many students with each type of disability enrolled in arts are also English learners.
    • You may find it useful to select multiple values for some filters. For example, you might click Race/Ethnicity and select Black, Hispanic, and Two or More to find out how many students with each type of disability enrolled in arts also identify with one of these groups.

13. To download the data as tables so that you can analyze the differences between these subgroups, click 

    

    Send and choose Download Excel.

Topic Dashboard by all Subgroups

This method allows you to compare one subgroup to all other subgroups side-by-side. You might open the Student Growth Percentile - All Subgroups dashboard if you want to find out in which grade levels your homeless students have the lowest growth percentiles so that your district can better target after-school support programs toward those age groups.

1. From the WISEhome and WISEsecure Login Information page, log in to WISEhome.
2. Open WISEdash for Districts.
3. Click Dashboards.
4. Click Topics.
5. Select the dashboard of your choice that includes "All Subgroups" in its name.
6. If there is a message below the filters that says, "You must select values from the following filters before the dashboard can be displayed," click Filter Data.
7. Click the name of the filter mentioned in the message, such as the District filter.
8. Select or search for a value from the filter's drop-down list.
9. Once you have added values for all required filters, the dashboard displays a separate graph for each subgroup.

Further filter the data 

1. Once you have added values for all required filters, click Filter Data again.
2. Click the filter and then select the value(s) for which you want to see more specific data.
   • For example, you might click Disability and then select both Deaf or Hard of Hearing and Blind and Visually Impaired to better understand what subgroup of these students needs extra support: a particular grade level, English learners, or another group.

3. To download the data as tables so that you can analyze the differences between these subgroups, click 

   

   Send and choose Download Excel.

View the data as a table

1. Click on any data point in the graph to see the data in table form.
2. Click the name of a column header in the table to sort by that column.

3. Click the three horizontal lines 

   

    next to a column header to filter the data for certain values in that column.

4. Above the table's filters, click Back to Achievement Gap [dashboard name] to return to the graph view.

Get more information about the data

1. Above the graphs in each dashboard, click Resources and Notes to better understand the data in these dashboards.
2. Next to each graph, click the More info icon to view the graph as a pop-up window. The tabs at the top of the pop-up window display:
   • Content: a graph of the data
   • Data: a table of the data in chronological order
   • Definitions: terms that define aspects of this data
3. Click Close in the lower right or X in the upper right to close this window and return to the Assessment Summary screen.
4. If you have more questions about this data, like "How is student growth percentile calculated?", visit the About the Data: Growth page.

Crosstabs in Snapshot Dashboards

This method allows you to view two subgroups in different collections of data. For instance, you might need to decide where to focus expectation-setting and mindfulness or de-escalation practices in special education (SPED) and non-special education classes at the start of a school term. So, you open the Discipline collection from the December Student Snapshot and add a SPED column. This allows you to compare types of discipline incidents in which students with disabilities have been involved recently to the types of discipline incidents in which students without disabilities have been involved.

1. From the WISEhome and WISEsecure Login Information page, log in to WISEhome.
2. Open WISEdash for Districts.
3. Click Dashboards.
4. Click Snapshots.
5. Select the data collection from the snapshot of your choice.
6. If there is a message below the filters that says, "You must select values from the following filters before the dashboard can be displayed," click Filter Data.
7. Click the name of the filter mentioned in the message, such as the District filter.
8. Select or search for a value from the filter's drop-down list.
9. Once you have added values for all required filters, the dashboard displays data.
10. Scroll down to the crosstab that interests you.
11. Under Available data, identify the subgroups that interest you.
12. Drag and drop the subgroups beneath the Columns or the Rows header.
    • For example, drag and drop SPED under Columns. Now the table displays two additional columns: Students without Disabilities and Students with Disabilities.
13. To remove groups from the table, drag and drop them under the Available data header.

14. To further analyze the data, click 

    

     Send and select Download Excel.

    • In Excel, you can use formulas to calculate percentages and compare the raw data from different tables.
