Filtering Tips

  • If the dashboard requires specific filters, the dashboard does not display data. Instead, a message at the top of the dashboard tells you for which filter(s) you need to choose a value.
  • Filters remain active when you switch between dashboards.
  • The “Group by” filter allows you to group the data by categories of disability, gender, grade level, and more. This is useful if you want to compare two groups of students.
  • In WISEdash for Districts, the "Mask Student" filter hides replaces individual student identifiers such as name, WISEid, and school name with "--masked--" so that users with access to student-level data can present statistics to stakeholders who should not have access to student-level data.

Filter Table Columns

  1. In a table (such as the results of a Student Search), click the hamburger menu three horizontal lines.
  2. Click the current filter; "Contains"three horizontal lines is the default. Select your preferred option.
  3. Enter the value to filter. For example, if you have done a student search because you need to fix the guardian contact information for some students in a family in which some children have a hyphenated last name, you might select "Ends with" and then enter the second last name.
  4. After you enter a value, an optional secondary filter appears below. Filter further, or click outside of the filter.
  5. Drag and drop column headers to rearrange the columns in the table.
  6. Click the header of a column to sort the results in ascending order by that column.
    • If you instead wish to sort the results in descending order, click the header twice.
  7. To remove a column from the table, drag it outside of the table and drop it in one of the margins of the screen.

Export Charts and Data

  1. After you have filtered the dashboard to focus on the data that interests you, click "send" (export icon) Send.
  2. Select the file type you would like to download:
    • Excel (.xls): Choose this option if you want to further sort and filter the data, do calculations with the data, create Pivot tables, and more.
    • Report (.pdf): Choose this option if the data is already displaying in a way that suits your needs, and you would like to use it in read-only form.
    • Data (.csv): Choose this option if you want to further sort and filter the data, do calculations with the data, create Pivot tables, and more. DPI recommends you open the .csv file in Microsoft Excel.
  3. If you are downloading data from WISEdash for Districts, read the Disclaimer in the pop-up window.
  4. Click Yes only if you are able to keep this data secure on the device to which you are downloading it.
  5. From your browser's list of downloads, click Open file.
    • Or, open your computer's File Explorer app and double-click the file in the Downloads folder.
