Learning Management Systems (LMS) Integration with WISELearn Resources Library
This integration makes it easy for teachers and educators to search and add thousands of resources for classroom activities and professional learning. The repository of learning resources is growing everyday. Resources are made by teachers for other teachers in Wisconsin.
A major advantage is that teachers do not have to leave their LMS in order to search and add resources to their classroom.
This integration, known as LTI integration. If you are not familiar with LTI, think of it as a tool that allows LMS to add application to their app store.
The following LMS are supported:
Even if you do not have the following LMS, you can still link and added resources from https://wlresources.dpi.wi.gov. WISELearn Resources Library are publicly accessible from the web. Resources are not behind a login system.
1st Step - LMS Integration, Key & Secret
The initial step is getting a key and secret from a WISELearn system administrator.
We'll need the following information:
- School Name
- LMS Name
- LMS Administrator Contact Information (Name, Email, and Phone)
How do you improve the LMS search experience for teachers?
Currently from most LMS, the teacher has to pick a content provider such as Khan Academy, OER Commons, WISELearn Resources, or some other vendor before they can search by subject, grade, name, etc of a chosen content repository. Wouldn't it be easier if teachers could search all their content repository using plain text search, search by subject, or grade, etc before having to pick a repository or publisher?
There is a way to do that, you'll need to encourage your LMS to implement LTI Resource Search. If you are writing an RFP, include the following language:
- LMS must provide teachers to ability to search all connected content repository or publishers using LTI Resource Search specifications.
The same language can be used when working with a current LMS provider.
You can save time for teachers. Teachers won't have to move from content publisher to content publisher to find the right resource for their student.
