Accountability Waiver Granted

Thursday, April 22, 2021

Dear District Administrators,

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Education for a waiver from accountability provisions under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

This means Wisconsin will not be identifying new schools as comprehensive, targeted, and additional targeted support and improvement schools, but will be carrying forward last year’s identifications. It also means schools will not be held, for accountability purposes, to a 95 percent test participation rate, as well as other academic indicators, school quality or student success indicators, or progress towards meeting long-term goals and measures of interim progress.

If you have questions about this waiver, please contact Viji Somasundaram, Director, Office of Educational Accountability at oeamail@dpi.wi.gov.
