Ensuring a strong nutritional foundation that supports learning for all students
Wisconsin pubic schools served over 82 million school lunches, over 26 million school breakfasts, and over 2 million afterschool snacks during the 2013-14 school year. The Department of Public Instruction runs three separate programs to support this work: the Community Nutrition Team that works largely outside of the school to help those in need, the School Nutrition Team that handles traditional school feeding, and Team Nutrition that works to spread healthy lifestyles and nutrition information to the state's students.
“We all know that hunger makes it harder to concentrate and it’s no different for kids in our schools and day care centers. Hungry kids can’t learn.” - State Superintendent Tony Evers
