Resources for Districts

Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Dear District Administrators,

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) recognizes all you’re juggling to keep your schools running smoothly, so we are continuously looking for ways to make your jobs easier. We have assembled some resources and a couple reminders for both new and experienced administrators.

DPI Staff and Topical Directories

Calendars

  • Because we know how busy you are and how tough it is to keep all the dates and deadlines straight, we’ve created an Administrator’s Calendar (https://dpi.wi.gov/news/administrators-calendar/month) that consolidates many of DPI’s team calendars into a single filterable view. While it is not inclusive of all teams or events, it is a valuable resource to view many deadlines, testing, and reporting dates. We aim for this to be as much of a one-stop shop as possible, so check it out and let us know if you have feedback for additional dates or events you’d like included. We value your input as much as your time.

Updating your School Directory

  • The School Directory application allows districts, independent charter schools, and private schools to update the DPI database directly with contact information, grade levels, addresses, and school calendars. New District Administrators should request access to the online School Directory application via WISEhome to add or update their contact information for the district. See the School Directory webpage for access to the application and more information about School Directory data.

Licensing Inquiry Response Updates

  • DPI is responding to inquiries sent through our online contact form within 24 to 48 hours of submission. Accordingly, the quickest response for general licensing inquiries will be through the contact us feature on our website. Educators are also able to book appointments directly with the agency through Microsoft Bookings. Appointments will be available every weekday and can be scheduled 24 hours to a week in advance.

District Administrator Web Page

  • The department’s web page for District Administrators contains information and resources most relevant to administrators, including a section for new district administrators. You will find general information, communication chronos, and other timely information. We continue to refine this page to best serve you and welcome your input.

Sincerely,

John W. Johnson, PhD
Deputy State Superintendent
