Special Education Transition Incentive Grant

Monday, January 6, 2020

Dear District Administrators,

Please see the letter regarding the availability of categorical aid through the Special Education Transition Incentive Grant, a categorical aid program created under 2015 Act 55 to incentivize positive post school outcomes for students with disabilities. Districts are encouraged to participate in the Transition Incentive Grant and will need to indicate their decision to participate via the Indicator 14 website no later than March 1, 2020. During the week of January 6, 2020, the Director of Special Education will receive an email containing directions for electing to participate in the grant as well as link to the application via indicator14wi.org.

For more information on the Transition Incentive aid's impact on IDEA MOE compliance, please see this additional guidance.

If you have any questions regarding the Transition Incentive Grant please feel free to reach out to Alicia Reinhard, Statewide Transition and Graduation Consultant at alicia.reinhard@dpi.wi.gov or (608) 266-1146.

NOTE:  A correction was sent to all districts on January 8, as follows:

CORRECTION: Special Education Transition Incentive Grants – Eligible up to $1000

The Special Education Transition Incentive Grant, a categorical aid program created under 2015 Act 55 to incentivize positive post school outcomes for students with disabilities, will once again be available to districts. **Correction: Wisconsin State Statute 115.884 specifies that each district is eligible to earn up to $1,000, not $1500 as previously noted, for each student whose response to the Indicator 14 survey indicates that they met the specified postsecondary education/paid work outcome criteria. If state funds are insufficient to cover the full cost of all eligible survey responses, payments to recipients will be prorated.

Districts received notification regarding the Special Education Transition Incentive Grant aid payments in Fall, 2019. **Correction: Districts will be eligible for $1,000.00, not $1082.50 as previously noted, per eligible survey response as required in Wisconsin State Statute 115.884.
