2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Honoree

Living green and healthy and in a sustainable way is a community effort at Eagleville Elementary Charter School in Mukwonago.

With an emphasis on environmental education, students and staff at the 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School learn about the direct impact waste has on the Earth, and they actively work to mitigate their own output. To reduce the footprint of the schools, students and staff compost, recycle and eliminate the usage of plastic and paper in the school cafeteria. A no-idling policy and the combination of two bus routes helps the school reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and a nearby school forest gives students and the surrounding community the opportunity to participate in several walking and running events throughout the year.

Environmental literacy and sustainability is interwoven throughout Eagleville Elementary, with students taking part in hands-on learning experiences in the school gardens, the school forest, and a nearby creek. By utilizing those outdoor areas, students learn about the environment and how they can help be green and healthy throughout their lives. Students often partner with the community and share what they have learned about the environment through gardening, monitoring water health, recycling, and more.

Congratulations to Eagleville Elementary Charter School on being named a 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School!
