MADISON — State Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor released a statement today on Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson's 43 years of service.

"It is a privilege to honor Supreme Court Justice Shirley Abrahamson for her decades of dedicated service to the State of Wisconsin. As we celebrate the centennial of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote, we recognize so many amazing women who fought for equality then and now. Justice Abrahamson is one of those leading women. She became the first woman to sit on the state’s highest court during a time when women had difficulty entering the legal profession. Devoting her life to pursuing justice for all, she has been a champion for civil rights and continuously pushing for open government. My sincere gratitude for her lifetime of service and commitment to helping the citizens of our state."
