MADISON — State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Tony Evers’ State of the State Address:

“In his State of the State Address, Governor Evers laid out a robust plan to support our children’s mental health, increase their academic achievement, and strengthen our education workforce. Funding for mental health services in schools, evidence-based literacy and math instruction, and educator recruitment and retention efforts, along with a state-funded investment in our child care sector – these proposals will have a significant and sustained impact on the lives of our students and educators. Not just in the present, but well into Wisconsin’s future, and the future of Wisconsinites’ health, happiness, and economic prosperity depends on us getting to work and investing in our future, now.

“Governor Evers often says that what’s best for our kids is what’s best for our state. The governor concluded his speech last night pledging to get to work, and to do it together. I am proud to work alongside him, and I look forward to partnering with the Wisconsin State Legislature to get our students, educators, and schools the resources they need, and the support they deserve.”
