MADISON — State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly released the following statement today in response to the filing of a lawsuit by public employees, including teachers and education support personnel, concerning 2011 Act 10.

“I applaud this lawsuit on behalf of the children it stands to support. When you’re a teacher, every decision you make impacts the future because every decision impacts the kids in your classroom, so you always put children first. I think the same should hold true when you’re a leader; we should always hold our kids in our hearts and our heads when we make decisions. And demand change when it’s needed. Returning collective bargaining rights to public sector employees will strengthen our educator workforce, and strengthening our educator workforce will improve our children’s education and create a stronger future for our state.”
