MADISON — As work continues on the external focus of its strategic planning process, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction today announced the first five opportunities for communities to share their perspectives on the department’s mission, vision, values, and priorities. During each Strategic Planning Community Engagement Session, DPI staff will engage in facilitated conversations to gather feedback from the public in various areas throughout the state.

“I love our public schools and libraries, and I love interacting with parents, community members, and the learners in our classrooms,” State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said. “Providing opportunities for community participation and deep listening – that’s what meaningful parental and family engagement is all about, and I am proud that the DPI is going to reach communities across the state with our community engagement sessions. Suffice it to say that I am very excited about our strategic planning process. I hope you join us!”

Earlier this week, Dr. Underly wrote a message on the importance of authentic engagement in education. The DPI’s Strategic Plan aims to align the work of the agency and the needs of all learners in Wisconsin’s schools and libraries. The process of the strategic plan features three phases, culminating in a final strategic plan being released in fall 2024. Details on the DPI’s Strategic Planning Community Engagement Sessions, including a link to register to attend, can be found below:

Additional community engagement sessions are planned across the state in the coming months. The DPI is also encouraging feedback from the public through an online Strategic Planning Survey. More information on the DPI’s Strategic Plan can be found on the department’s website.
