Celebrating School Library Month

Monday, April 1, 2024

As we celebrate School Library Month, it is important to recognize the significant role that school library media specialists play in enhancing students' literacy skills, fostering innovation, and promoting the application of ideas and information. Through lessons and collaborative integrations featuring literacy, STEAM, and digital learning, these dedicated professionals contribute to transforming learning experiences for students statewide.

The Library Services Team extends our heartfelt gratitude to the school library media specialists, staff, and volunteers for their unwavering support to students across Wisconsin. Their efforts are invaluable in shaping the educational landscape and empowering students to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

Beginning April 1, Dr. Darrell L. Williams, Assistant State Superintendent for the Division for Libraries and Technology, will embark on a journey to school libraries throughout the state. His aim is to witness firsthand and celebrate the knowledge, creativity, and expertise of school library media specialists. Dr. Williams will commence School Library Month celebrations this week in Madison and Milwaukee, with plans to visit other school districts across Wisconsin throughout April.

During his visits, Dr. Williams anticipates learning about the diverse range of school library programs and technology projects implemented at all grade levels from early childhood through high school. These initiatives reflect the dedication of educators and the commitment to providing students with enriching educational opportunities.

Furthermore, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued a proclamation honoring the impact of school libraries on student learning in Wisconsin. This recognition underscores the importance of fostering environments promoting literacy, innovation, and lifelong learning.

As we embark on this month-long celebration, let us continue to champion the vital role of school libraries in nurturing the intellectual curiosity and academic success of students across our state. Together, we can create a brighter future filled with endless possibilities for our learners.
