This is the department’s decision regarding that complaint. The issues are whether the district, in August 2018, properly utilized physical restraint with a student with a disability, and properly implemented the behavior intervention plan (BIP) of a student with a disability.

    IDEA Complaint Decision 18-064

    On August 14, 2018 (form dated August 10, 2018), the Department of Public Instruction (department) received a complaint under state and federal special education law from XXXXX (complainant) against the Milwaukee Public Schools (district). This is the department’s decision regarding that complaint. The issues are whether the district, during the 2017-18 school year, properly developed an individualized education program (IEP), and properly determined transportation services for a student with a disability.

This is the department’s decision regarding that complaint. The issue is whether the district, during the 2017-2018 school year, properly followed special education disciplinary requirements.

    IDEA Complaint Decision 17-070

    On October 19, 2017, the Department of Public Instruction (department) received a complaint under state and federal special education law from XXXXX against the Milwaukee Public Schools (district). The issues are whether the district, during the 2016-17 school year, improperly utilized restraint on a student with a disability; and properly responded to a parent’s request for a pupil record.
