Dance and World Languages Draft Standards Hearing

Monday, February 4, 2019

Dear District Administrators and CESA Administrators,

The State Superintendent has developed and used a transparent and inclusive process to review and revise academic standards https://dpi.wi.gov/standards. Provided in this email for your review and distribution are drafts of Wisconsin Standards for Dance and World Languages developed by our state-wide writing committees and informed by key stakeholders from Wisconsin.

We are now in a 30-day public and legislative comment period. We will be holding two public hearings, in Madison and Oshkosh. The first will be in Madison on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at the Department of Public Instruction, GEF 3, Room P41, 125 South Webster Street, and the second will be on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at CESA 6, Collaborations Conference Room, 2300 State Road 44, Oshkosh.

Following this public review, the writing committees (membership lists are posted on the content areas’ webpages) will be meeting in early March to make changes/revisions to these drafts based on input provided during the review period, and present them at the next meeting of the State Superintendent’s Standards Review Council in April.

This is exciting work, and we have had very positive feedback from educators and business experts in these areas who were engaged in the key stakeholder feedback.

I am providing you links to the standards posted online, the content areas’ webpage, and the online feedback form for public comment.

We will be reviewing, using our checklist and reviewing feedback from the public, the current academic standards in two new content areas: Personal and Financial Literacy and Art and Design Education. I am sharing links to the Notices of Intent to Review, surveys and webpages for each content area:

Please contact John Johnson, Director, Literacy and Mathematics Team (john.johnson@dpi.wi.gov), if you have any questions.

Please share this information with your staff, help us shape these standards drafts in Dance and World Languages, and review the academic standards in these two new content areas.

Thank you again for your work and support for ensuring we have great academic standards.
