The Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary, Wisconsin Sea Grant, and Wisconsin Historical Society are excited to announce our summer 2024 in-person workshop in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Educators will experience the sanctuary from land as well as aboard the R/V Neeskay. At least half the day will be spent on the water. Participants will also have the opportunity to provide insights and feedback to the sanctuary to help further refine this program and ensure future programming meets educator needs.

WHAT: A full day to Get into YOUR Sanctuary!
WHEN: Friday August 23, 2024, from 0800 to 1700
WHERE: Aboard the R/V Neeskay and shore side in Sheboygan
WHO: Formal or non-formal educators (grade levels 4 through 12) that are experienced or new to Great Lakes Literacy = anyone that works with students/youth is encouraged to attend!

STIPENDS will be provided to offset costs of attendance and travel.

APPLICATION IS DUE June 30, 2024

FULL APPLICATION will include:

  1. Application form
  2. Short personal statement
  3. Letter of recommendation

PERSONAL STATEMENT GUIDELINES

  • A. Describe why you think this program would benefit you as a professional.
  • B. Please describe (briefly) your experience in integrating Great Lakes, ocean, or general aquatic science into your educational setting; engaging students in stewardship and/or community science activities; and/or any leadership roles you have held as an educator.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

  • The letter of recommendation should be from your principal or supervisor in your school, district, or informal education institution who is familiar with your teaching and previous participation in professional learning opportunities. The writer should comment on 1) your work with students/learners, 2) experience collaborating with colleagues, and 3) role as an educational leader. Please feel free to share this guidance with the person writing the letter to help them craft their letter.
