Career and Technical Education: Explore the Possibilities

Friday, August 17, 2018

A new video from the Department of Public Instruction features Wisconsin students explaining the opportunities they were afforded through Career and Technical Education (CTE), offering families and students an introduction to the benefits of CTE.

From relevant technical classes to work-based learning, students talk about earning high school credit, building leadership and professional skills, and gaining valuable work experience.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) also play a major role in developing students’ communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Experiences through Wisconsin DECA, FCCLA, FFA, and others are highlighted in the video. Students talk about the social aspects of CTSOs and the importance of building their public speaking and time management skills as major parts of becoming responsible and mature adults.

Exposure to a variety of careers and experience in career fields students are interested in is a major component of Career and Technical Education. Watch as students share their experiences with various classes, work-based learning, and exposure to different careers, all while building leadership and professional skills.
