Celebrate Wisconsin School Gardens

Tuesday, June 8, 2021

In celebration of Wisconsin School Garden Day, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is sharing a new video highlighting several of the 800 documented Wisconsin school gardens and projects.

School Garden Day was meant to celebrate Wisconsin as a national leader in garden-based education. Wisconsin School Garden Day honors the people and programs that bring gardens and gardening to Wisconsin youth. Ten different programs are featured in the video, showing the wide range of gardening options schools offer including:

  • Hoop houses

  • Outdoor spaces

  • Hydroponic gardens

  • Online gardening classes

There is even a familiar DPI ConnectEd face in the video. David Lee Schneider, the AmeriCorps Farm to School Education Specialist for the Howard-Suamico School District can be seen working with three young children as they plant the first seeds of the season.
