Five Success Stories You Must Know About Wisconsin Schools

More than 600 schools have been recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center for their hard work implementing an equitable multi-level system of support. Recognized schools are increasing consistency of effective instruction, building staff knowledge and skills so they can support all learners, using data to proactively identify and provide support for students, and creating a culture that supports stronger relationships with students and their families.

The Wisconsin RtI Center is honored to share five success stories from the hundreds supported by their expert technical assistance coordinators for academics and behavior.

Butte des Morts Elementary in Menasha empowers parents to engage in the academic success of their kids by setting academic goals together.

Cudahy High School in Cudahy sustains tier 2 supports to track progress and help students set realistic goals for the week to reduce office discipline referrals.

McNeel Intermediate School in Beloit uses school-wide expectations known as HOME to reduce suspension rates for all racial groups.

Northwestern Middle School in Poplar utilizes evidence-based practices to strengthen their universal tier 1 support in academics for improved student outcomes.

Westside Elementary in Sun Prairie reduced office discipline referrals by 62% through teaching behavioral skills rather than assigning consequences.

Congratulations to all of our Wisconsin schools and teams for their dedication to positive learner outcomes so every child graduates college and career ready.

You can find the current list of honored schools on the center’s website. Schools can be recognized in the content areas of behavior, mathematics, and/or reading. Different levels provide acknowledgment along a school’s implementation journey. Recognition levels are:

  • Bronze: At full implementation/fidelity in one content area at the universal level for at least one year. These are the schools just beginning the process of systemic implementation.
  • Silver: At full implementation/fidelity in one content area at the universal level for at least two years and selected level for at least one year. These are schools beginning to sustain their systemic implementation.
  • Gold: At full implementation/fidelity in two content areas at the universal and selected levels for at least two years. These are the schools who are starting to see positive student outcomes from their sustained implementation.
  • Platinum: At full implementation/fidelity in all three content areas, at all three implementation levels, and for at least three years. These are the schools who are seeing robust positive student outcomes. These schools have a very well developed system of supports.
