Wisconsin 2021 Counselor of the Year Finalist for National Recognition

Tuesday, October 19, 2021

A school counselor from the Madison Metropolitan School District is one of five finalists to be recognized nationally.

In February, Marianne Matt, a counselor at Capital High School in Madison, was selected by the Wisconsin School Counselor Association as the 2021 Wisconsin School Counselor of the Year. She was selected for the honor because of her ability to “create lasting change within the profession through leadership, collaboration, and advocacy,” according to a story by MMSD.

A school counselor for nearly seven years, Matt works to build relationships within the community, such as Madison College, to help prepare students for post high school success. A WSCA news release said Matt designs and delivers a data informed comprehensive school counseling program that is aligned with the equity vision of Capital High School.

Because of her success as a school counselor, Matt was recently named a finalist for the American School Counselor Association’s 2022 School Counselor of the Year awards program. She is one of five finalists from around the nation selected by a panel based on several criteria, including school counseling innovations, exemplary school counseling programs, leadership and advocacy skills, and contributions to student outcomes. The organization will announce the 2022 School Counselor of the year later this fall.

Congratulations, Marianne, and thank you for all of the incredible work you do for our students!
