Extra Credit: Required Trainings

Welcome back to Extra Credit, where we spotlight training resources to help you dream big and develop new skills.

Required School Staff Trainings
The following trainings are required in state or federal law for some or all school staff. Specific requirements are described below. This is not an exhaustive list of all required trainings that school districts need to implement. Please visit the Required School Staff Trainings webpage for more detailed information.

1. Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect
Required of every school employee.
Training frequency: Within the first six months of employment, then every five years. Statutory Authority: Wis. Stat. sec. 118.07(5).

Currently, local school leaders have the option to use one of two versions of the training:

2. Mandatory Reporting of Threats of School Violence (Act 143)
Required of every school employee.
Training frequency: Within the first six months of employment, then every five years. Statutory Authority: Wis. Stat. sec. 118.07(5).

3. Bloodborne Pathogens 
Required of all school employees that can reasonably be anticipated to be exposed to blood.
Training frequency: Upon initial assignment, then annually. Statutory Authority: O.S.H.A. regulation 29 CFR 1910.1030 (g)(2)(ii). An option for programming may be found at: https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/sspw/pdf/snbbpentrypage.pdf.
