2022 Wisconsin EHCY Conference

On October 11 and 12, 2022 DPI and partners at SchoolHouse Connection and Pearl Strategies hosted the virtual 2022 Wisconsin Education for Homeless Children and Youth Conference. This two-day virtual conference featured a student panel; basic and advanced information about the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and best practices to support students; topics like unaccompanied homeless youth, identification, and early childhood services; tips to build strong community partnerships; and tools to help youth experiencing homelessness complete the FAFSA and transition to post-secondary education.

Conference Goals: Over the course of this two-day EHCY conference, participants will:

  • Understand the basics of McKinney-Vento law, including what is required of liaisons in order to support students' right to education;
  • Identify the unique challenges and best practices for supporting for students experiencing homelessness across early childhood, transitioning to higher ed, and for unaccompanied homeless youth;
  • Learn best practices for developing school-community partnerships that benefit all partners and the children, youth, and families they serve
  • Select at least one area to develop an action plan over the next school year, including needed resources for implementation.
