Under 2019 Act 9, the Personal Electronic Computing Devices Grant is no longer funded, effective with the 2019-20 school year.
What expenditures are eligible for reimbursement?
Purchases of mobile devices, as well as curriculum, software, and professional development that support them, are eligible for reimbursement.
- Mobile devices:
- Chromebooks (but not Chromebook management licenses)
- Tablets
- Laptop computers
- Phones capable of accessing the internet (but not data plans for them)
- Hotspots (eligible unless reimbursement has been received for them under a TEACH grant)
- Virtual reality headsets
- Insurance for devices, but only if included as a one-time cost as part of the purchase price of the devices.
- Note: Annual lease payments for mobile devices are eligible, as long as schools are contractually required to take ownership of them at the end of the lease period.
- Software
- Any software that can be used or accessed by a mobile device by students while learning is eligible, including:
- Software purchased as part of a curriculum package
- Software accessed over the internet
- Software that either purchased outright or subscribed to
- Ineligible software:
- Mobile device management systems
- Learning Management systems
- Any software that can be used or accessed by a mobile device by students while learning is eligible, including:
- Curriculum
- All curricular materials are eligible if some part of their content can be accessed by mobile devices.
- Professional Development (only expenditures that have not been reimbursed under a TEACH grant)
- All professional development expenses incurred for training teachers, administrators, and pupil services staff to help students use mobile devices in classrooms are eligible for reimbursement. This includes:
- Onsite training provided by outside trainers
- Onsite training provided by employees, calculated on a per-hour basis.
- Compensation of tech integrators, library media specialists, or any professional staff acting as instructional coach in the use of mobile devices, during the time they are working with teachers.
- Workshop registration fees
- Travel and lodging expenses, if they are required as part of eligible training
- All professional development expenses incurred for training teachers, administrators, and pupil services staff to help students use mobile devices in classrooms are eligible for reimbursement. This includes:
