Free Summer Meals Video to be Played Statewide

Tuesday, June 8, 2021

Now that the school year is coming to a close, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is promoting the Summer Food Service Program in a new video encouraging people to find safe locations to secure free healthy meals for children 18 years of age and younger.

The video is playing at more than 600 gas stations around the state, focused in areas where Summer Food Service Program sites are located.

More than 26 million children eat school lunch every day when school is in session. Roughly half of them receive their meals free or at a reduced price due to low household income. The Summer Food Service Program offers those children nutritious food when school is not in session.

The brief video encourages viewers to text ‘FOOD’ to 877-877 to find the summer meal locations in their area.
