Keeping Kids Safe Online All Year

Keeping Kids Safe Online Month has come to a close, but the need for continued awareness, conversations, and meaningful methods for promoting healthy online behavior is more important than ever.

October was a great success with a large number of districts supporting initiatives around online safety skills and social and emotional learning. In order to keep the momentum going, there are several things you can do in your school or district, including prioritizing continued parent and student connections through the interact! module. The module is an e-course that takes an interactive approach to open up discussions about online safety in the home through watching videos, navigating online scenarios, and completing a family media plan.

Other ideas for promoting safe online behaviors include:

  • Modeling online safety in lessons
  • Sharing an online safety tip per week with students and families
  • Inviting parents to take part in “Keeping Kids Safe Online” activities
  • Continuing parent/guardian and child involvement
