National School Breakfast Week was another success, as schools across Wisconsin promoted the many benefits of school breakfast to students.
As part of the celebration, No Kid Hungry, Hunger Task Force, School Nutrition Association of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction came up with a way to celebrate and honor the important work school nutrition professionals do every day in serving breakfast to students by sending each school food authority a School Breakfast Hero award.
As school breakfast participation continues to rise in districts across the state, they also face challenges, such as severe supply chain issues and labor shortages. That is why the U.S. Department of Agriculture provided School Breakfast Expansion grants to qualifying Wisconsin schools, which will be awarded within the next month.
During School Breakfast week, many school superintendents and administrators recognized this work by presenting the School Breakfast Hero award to their school nutrition staff in cafeterias and at school board meetings. Check out a few of the examples of School Breakfast Heroes below!
