About the Reading Advisory Council
The Wisconsin State Superintendent’s Reading Advisory Council is a representative group of Wisconsin community members who meet monthly through virtual meetings and are committed to strengthening comprehensive literacy learning, birth through grade 12, in Wisconsin schools by:
- fostering students’ use of literacy to understand themselves and others, to acquire knowledge, and to participate in a democratic society;
- advocating for conditions that support standards-informed literacy learning; and
- learning together and sharing information and recommendations with DPI.
Reading Advisory Council Members
DPI is committed to maintaining a Reading Advisory Council (RAC) that is broadly representative of Wisconsin’s communities, regions, and educational perspectives to support comprehensive literacy efforts statewide. Members are selected through an application process designed to bring together a range of voices, including educators, students, parents and caregivers, school and district leaders, librarians, educator preparation representatives, and other education partners.

Reading Advisory Council Learning: Early Literacy-Specific and Asset-Based Family Engagement
In 2022, the Council engaged in learning about early literacy-specific and asset-based family engagement. The Council then provided input on learning modules designed for use by teams serving 4K through grade 2.
During 2022 - 2023, select school teams with participate in work using the modules. For 2023 - 2024, the modules will be revised to include Wisconsin-specific examples and testimonials.
