Updated Coach Evaluation Tools

Written by Rachel Fregien; Education Consultant for Coaching Supports

In the 2018-19 school year, the developers of the Wisconsin Coaching Competency Practice Profile (CCPP) began to develop an evaluation rubric aligned to the CCPP and other standards. This evaluation has been developed to evaluate different types of coaches: instructional, teams, and systems.

In the 2019-20 school year, the WI Coach Evaluation was piloted by districts and 2R charters across the state while providing feedback to the development team. The team made revisions to the rubric and recommended processes based on the pilot participant feedback.

Since then, educational coaches across the state have been utilizing the coaching tools and resources within their evaluation cycles. For the first time, coaches have been able to connect their professional development and continuous improvement efforts directly to their coaching positions. No longer do coaches have to use an evaluation system that does not align to the work they are doing!

In the 2021-2022 school year, the CCPP underwent an extensive review and update to intentionally infuse equity throughout the document. You can read more about the update and see the newest version in the Coaching Chronicles Newsletter story titled “Coaching With An Equity Mindset.”

In preparation for the 2022-2023 school year, districts who are using the Coach Rubric in their systems will consider whether you want to incorporate the new rubric in your systems. As stated above, the new rubric aligns to the updated CCPP. It includes essential language uniquely positioning coaches to recognize, respond and work to root out systemic inequities. By incorporating the newest version of the rubric, coaches in your system can continue to align professional practice goals to their coaching work as well as intentionally infuse equity within their goals.
