Continuity of learning remains a critical equity issue facing Wisconsin schools even as students and educators return to in-person instruction. It is important to continue supporting schools’ efforts to get students connected to high quality, affordable internet where they live to ensure equitable access for learning outside of school buildings.
This year, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction continues to support schools and libraries as they work to get students access to the internet and devices they need through initiatives including:
- Resources for eligible families to apply for discounted monthly internet service through the Emergency Broadband Benefit and to pay current and past due bills through the Wisconsin Emergency Rental Assistance.
- The Digital Learning Bridge, a partnership between the DPI and CESA Purchasing that schools use to purchase discounted hardware, software, as well as bulk subscriptions for discounted internet.
- Providing secure tools through DPI’s WISE applications that allow schools to collect, use, and analyze data about internet and device access for students in their district.
- Supporting Emergency Connectivity Fund applications for schools to purchase devices and internet access for students where they live.
- Public reporting tools, including the Digital Equity Public Portal and public mapping tool, that Wisconsin residents can use to learn more about the state of digital learning equity across the state.
