American Education Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate public education. This year’s theme is “Great Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility” and it marks the 95th year of celebration. The first observance day traces back to 1921 and was aimed at increasing literacy levels of the average American.

We continue the tradition by celebrating AEW the week before Thanksgiving. It’s a time to recognize how strong public schools provide the tools, resources, and support to prepare students for life. They help us understand other perspectives, our civic duties, and ways to carry our society forward.

This week, let’s champion individuals making strides and the journey ahead in maintaining strong schools for all Wisconsin students!
