Whether using these resources directly in your classroom or as part of a FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) service learning project, this is an special Wisconsin educational opportunity that you don't want to miss out on!  To learn more about Money Smart Week visit the national website.

About Money Smart Week Kids Read -
Wisconsin is a pilot state this year for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Money Smart Week® Kids Read.

The Money Smart Week Kids Read book for 2018 is Those Shoes, by Maribeth Boelts. The book was selected by a group of librarians representing GA, NC, and WI and will be used in activities during Money Smart Week, April 21-28, 2018.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is pleased to provide free copies of its Money as You Grow reading guide for each copy of Those Shoes. Parents can read Those Shoes with their children and use the guide to start a conversation about key money skills like prioritizing and staying true to yourself. Copies of the parent guide will be delivered under separate cover.

In addition to sponsoring the Money Smart Week Kids Read book, Ally Financial is also offering their financial education book for kids, Planet Zeee and the Money Tree, to participants.

It is our hope that kids will repeatedly ask parents, teachers, and librarians to read these books which in turn provides opportunities for discussions and activities about saving, spending, and appropriate money management.

Created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002, Money Smart Week® is a public education campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the coordinated effort of thousands of organizations across the country. Partnering organizations will host their Money Smart Week events April 21 - 28, 2018. For more information about events or becoming a partner, visit www.moneysmartweek.org.

How It Works

1. Fill out the request form selecting up to the maximum number of copies allowed. Books have been provided free this year through a generous donation by Ally Financial.

2. Visit the Money Smart Week Website at http://www.moneysmartweek.org/ for ideas on activities to plan in your community.

3. Books have been shipped to a coordinator in your state (Wisconsin: Lori Burgess, Assistant Director for Operations, Fond du Lac Public Library) who will then deliver them to you. You should plan to have the books by April 1, 2018.

4. Librarians, teachers, high school students, or community members read, discuss, and distribute books to children across your state.

5. Families share the story and begin discussing their own money habits throughout April.

* Please note: Books are made available to participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will notify you if we are unable to fulfill your request.
