Teacher Licensure and Certification

To ensure quality arts experiences for all of our students, there is a continued pursuit to hire qualified teachers. The state statutes address this specifically in the rules noted below. Current laws and administrative rules for teacher certification are also contained in PI 3 and PI 4 at the teacher licensing site.

Standard J. Each school district shall: Ensure that instruction in elementary and high schools in health, physical education, art, and music, is provided by qualified teachers.

Rule PI 8.01(2)(j)(3)
“Art instruction shall be provided for all pupils in grades kindergarten through 6 and shall be performed by or under the direction of a licensed art teacher. Art instruction shall be available to all pupils in grades 7 through 12 and shall be taught by a licensed art teacher.”

Rule PI 8.01(2)(j)(4)
