Two of the Council of Chief State School Officers’ (CCSSO) State Collaboratives on Assessment and Student Standards (SCASS) — the Assessing Special Education Students (ASES) and Formative Assessment for Students and Teachers (FAST) — collaborated to consider the two fields together: formative assessment for students with disabilities. Together they wrote the Formative Assessment for Students with Disabilities report.

High-Leverage Practices
In partnership with the Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability and Reform (CEEDAR), the Council for Exceptional Children has developed and published a set of High Leverage Practices (HLPs) for special educators and teacher candidates. The HLPs embody the formative assessment process and are organized around four aspects of practice:
