The two-day training webinar is designed to increase participants’ understanding of ways to incorporate First Nations Studies into their practice with their students. This advanced training involves an exchange of ideas about practices, instructional strategies, and values around incorporating American Indian Studies into everyday teaching and learning. The two-day webinar training will include practical presentations around issues, concepts, and practices that will help the participants become more adept at developing lesson plans; creating curricula; augmenting teaching and learning strategies; and examining instructional practices in elementary, secondary, and higher education.
As a result of participating in this training, participants will:
- Hear from identified exemplar educators who will share best practices, information, ideas, and experiences on how to incorporate elements of First Nations Studies into lesson plans and curriculum.
- Learn how to implement new or adapt existing instructional techniques.
- Learn about authentic and accurate sources materials for teaching and learning about First Nations Studies.
- District Administrators

- Directors of Instruction/Curriculum Coordinators
- K-12 Teachers
- Library Media Specialists
Our staff and presenters come from a variety of academic and personal backgrounds. These individuals serve as exemplars and will be presenting and discussing the various topics in a large group session.
Note: Although NOT required, but strongly encouraged, participants are expected to have attended at least a one day American Indian Studies in Wisconsin training or event prior to this webinar. Examples include the following (but not limited too): annual Wisconsin American Indian Studies Summer Institute; American Indian Studies: Implement Wisconsin Act 31; Knowing Our Neighbors: Wisconsin American Indian Nations and Tribal Communities or related training or workshops. Participation in one of these trainings will help provide a background for understanding the more advanced concepts covered in this webinar training.
