Grades Offered: School Directory Public Portal and Management Portal

On School Directory Public Portal and within the School Directory Management Portal, this data element describes which grades the school or district provides education services for.
Grades offered are the grades that the school offers regardless of enrollment in that grade level. Most public schools will have enrollment for all grades offered. Private schools sometimes have grades offered but no enrollment for a school year, or students enroll in the middle of the year. School Directory shows all the grades that are offered by schools. Grades served refers to which grades have enrollment for the school year, as can be determined by enrollment numbers.
USES: This data element is part of the School Directory, used to provide detailed information about schools in Wisconsin.

FAQs, Details, and Points to Note
- PK is not a grade: PK is a code referring to students who have not yet reached the age for first grade (age 3, 4, or 5), are not enrolled in kindergarten (K4 or KG), have an individual education plan (IEP), and are receiving services from an LEA to support that IEP. For more information on PK, visit the 'Below Compulsory Age' section of the Grade Level Placement data element page.
- Grades Offered Vs Grades Served: Grades offered represent all grades a local education agency provide services for, based on their school type. Grades served refers to the number of grades that same LEA is actually teaching. For example, a smaller school may offer grades kindergarten through fifth grade, but due to enrollment and student population, they have no students in grade three for a current school year.
