Internet Performance in Residence: Digital Equity

This data element records the reliability of a student's Internet access in their primary residence. Internet performance quality determines whether the students can complete a full range of learning activities, including streaming video and uploading assignments without interruptions caused by poor Internet performance.

For the purpose of this data element, Internet performance is measured by a student's ability to stream video on their primary learning device without interruption.

The question for this data element on the Digital Equity Survey is:

Can the student stream a video on their primary learning device without interruption?

Yes The student experiences very few or no interruptions in learning activities caused by poor internet performance in their primary place of residence.

Sometimes (not consistently)

The student regularly experiences interruptions in learning activities caused by poor internet performance in their primary place of residence.
No The student is unable to complete learning activities due to poor internet performance in their primary place of residence.

USES: This data element is part of the digital equity collection which is intended to identify statewide needs to address the divide in digital access for students.
