Expected Transfer Response: WISEdata
When Exit Type=ETC and an inter-district transfer was expected (i.e., the expected transfer district is not the submitting district), then WISEdata requires the expected transfer district to respond to the question "Did the student move to your district on or before the count date?" See response options and codes below and then enter the information in the WISEdata Portal application. Enter the requested expected transfer response with the appropriate answer. If you have proof of the transfer, enter Yes. If not, or the student will not enroll at your school, enter a response of No. To indicate your response, please log in to WISEdata Portal and follow these instructions:
- On the green menu bar at the top, select Expected Transfers.
- Change the School Year if the default is not the one you need for this student.
- Click Search. A list of students will appear.
- Locate the student and click the Link button.
- In the Expected Transfer Response Question section, select the appropriate response from the drop-down menu, as listed in the box below.
- Click Update.
The school/district anticipating and/or receiving the incoming student should be entered in the field for Expected Transfer School/District.

USES: The response to the expected transfer question determines accountability for ETC exits. If the student transferred to a school not covered by WISEdata (response R, S, or T), the Exit Type should be TNC to reflect this response. Codes R and S are necessary for students with disabilities in order to determine if the student "Returned to Regular Education".
FAQs, Details, and Points to Note
- No Evidence of Transfer: If a school/district enters an exit type of expected transfer with a particular school to which the student is supposed to transfer, but the student does not end up enrolling at the expected transfer school, the expected transfer school should follow the steps above to enter an N, No evidence of transfer.
- Dropout Calculation: Either of the expected transfer codes, N, No evidence of transfer, or Y, Yes, but discontinued schooling, if this is the case, could result in a student counting as a dropout.
- It is important to note that if the student does not have a new enrollment at the expected transfer school or a different school in WISEdata, such that the expected transfer response is N, no evidence of transfer, any dropout status and responsibility would fall to the sending agency (the prior school that entered the expected transfer information).
- It would be up to the prior agency to investigate and track the student to identify whether or not the student enrolled elsewhere and to ensure the student is enrolled at the new location if they have proof of the transfer. See the Exit Type page for more on proof of transfer.
- If the student didn't enroll anywhere or the agency is unable to identify the student's new school, the most recent sending agency should change the exit code to ODO, and the student would count as their dropout.
- If the student briefly transferred to the new school but since discontinued schooling, the appropriate transfer response would be Y, Yes, but discontinued schooling. In this situation, the new agency of the expected transfer would be held accountable for the dropout status of the student.
- It is important to note that if the student does not have a new enrollment at the expected transfer school or a different school in WISEdata, such that the expected transfer response is N, no evidence of transfer, any dropout status and responsibility would fall to the sending agency (the prior school that entered the expected transfer information).
