Reporting CTE Concentrator Status

Setting Up Career Education Programs (Certified and Non-Certified)

Career Education and Dual Enrollment

Reporting CTE Concentrator Status

  • I have a student with a primary enrollment at my school taking CTE coursework at a different school in the same district.
    1. Should CTE course(s) taken outside of the primary school but within the district be counted towards the student's CTE concentrator status? Yes. CTE courses taken outside of the student's primary school within or outside of the district should be considered when determining a student's CTE concentrator status for the reporting year. A student is identified as a CTE concentrator if he or she completed a minimum of two CTE courses within a chosen pathway and is enrolled in a continuing CTE course in that pathway for the reporting year or a CTE concentrator may also be a student who has completed three CTE courses (or more) within a chosen pathway and is not enrolled in any CTE courses in the reporting year. Concentration details for the CTE student should be submitted in grades 11 and 12.
    2. Which school should report the student as a CTE concentrator if and when the student qualifies to become a CTE concentrator? The primary school should report the student as a CTE concentrator if the student meets the criteria of a CTE concentrator (as defined above)

Setting Up Career Education Programs (Certified and Non-Certified)

  1.  Should I set up career education programs (certified or non-certified) at a course or student level?
    • Districts have the option to submit certified and non-certified career education programs at a student level or course level. If a certified or a non-certified career education program is associated to a course rather than a characteristic of the student, submit the program at the course level. If submitted at the course level, DPI considers all students who are enrolled in the course associated with that program with a final grade as participants of the program. Most certified and non-certified career education programs are expected to be submitted at a course level however in cases where the program is a student characteristic, such as an Industry Recognized Credential (IRC), districts can submit the program at a student level.

Districts should ensure there are no data duplication as they report certified and non-certified career education student participation. For example, if a district chooses to set up their Finance Youth Apprenticeship workplace experience at a course level, the district should not report the same program participation for those students at a student level. This will lead to duplicate data of which the system will not be able to identify as an error.

If districts choose to submit career education program participation at a student level, the district must determine the programs the student is participating in and submit to DPI through their SIS. Please check with your individual SIS vendor how to submit the participation at a student level as it varies across systems. Any certified career education program participation sent at the student level must be coupled with a certified program status type.
  2.  Can I set up a course that is associated to more than one certified career education program?
    • No. Each certified career education program requires a unique 'certificated program status type' for data reporting. If you choose to set up the programs at a course level, you must set up each program as its own unique course. Please note that all students enrolled in the course associated to a certified career education program are considered all participants of that program.
  3.  Can I set up a course that is associated to more than one non-certified career education program?
    • Yes. Please note that all students enrolled in the course associated to both non-certified career education programs are considered all participants of all those programs.
  4.  Can I set up a course that is associated to both a certified career education program and a non-certified career education program?
    • Yes. Please note that all students enrolled in the course associated to both the non-certified career education program and the certified career education program are considered all participants of all those programs.

Career Education and Dual Enrollment

  1. Can I submit a single dual enrollment course associated with more than one dual enrollment program name?
    • Yes. Please note that all students enrolled in the dual enrollment course associated to more than one dual enrollment program name are considered all participants of all those dual enrollment programs. If this is not the case, the district should split the course unique with its own dual enrollment program name.
  2. Can I submit a course that is identified as dual enrollment and is also certified career education program?
    • Yes. Please note that all students enrolled in the course associated to both the certified career education program and the dual enrollment program name are considered all participants of all those programs. Additionally, the district should submit a certificated program status type for the student participating in the certified career education program.
  3. Can I submit a course that is identified as dual enrollment and is also a non-certified career education program?
    • Yes. Please note that all students enrolled in the course associated to both the non-certified career education program and the dual enrollment program name are considered all participants of all those programs.
