English Learner Entry/Exit Policies

With the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), numerous changes to the federal policies have occurred which impact how we serve and support English Learners. Throughout the 2018-19 school year, DPI will be working to implement corresponding state policies, and will be assisting districts in adapting to these new changes.

The core of this work will include an EL Policy Handbook, a draft of which can be found on the Title III EL Identification and Placement page. Districts are encouraged to explore this resource and begin planning for implementation of these policies throughout the 2018-19 school year. Questions and comments can be directed to either Jesse Roberts in the Assessment office or Audrey Lesondak in the Title III office.
