April National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option (SSO) Lunch and Breakfast Claims
Starting in the month of April, when a School Food Authority (SFA) is claiming lunch and/or breakfast for the entire month under the SSO waiver, a separate claim adjustment is not required (unlike March claims), as all meals for the month of April are provided and claimed under SSO. Full month SSO claims will be submitted through the Online Services claiming portal, per the instructions in the attached SSO Claim Manual. When you login to Online Services you will see that there is not a specific “SSO claim” section. You will need to claim your meals under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program.

IMPORTANT - SSO Claiming Manual: Information about how to submit claims when the entire month is operated under SSO begin on page 6 of the manual. Please be sure to read and follow each step to submit your claims.

If you already emailed a separate claim adjustment or “paper claim” to DPI for your April claims, this is a mistake, since you should enter your April claims in Online Services. Please login to Online Services and enter your April claims.

Nationwide Waiver of Local School Wellness Policy Triennial Assessments
The USDA recently issued a Nationwide Waiver of Local School Wellness Policy Triennial Assessments in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. This nationwide waiver is established to support schools unable to complete a triennial assessment of the local school wellness policies by June 30, 2020, due to closures as a result of COVID-19. The new first triennial assessment deadline is June 30, 2021, for those Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) opting to use this waiver, with the second triennial assessment due by June 30, 2024. LEAs must notify the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction of their intent to utilize this waiver. LEAs seeking to extend the triennial assessment deadline must complete the Local School Wellness Policy Triennial Assessment Waiver Notification Form by June 30, 2020.

LEAs are encouraged to complete the triennial assessment by June 30, 2020 if they are able. The SNT has developed the Wisconsin Local Wellness Policy Report Card for LEAs use to complete the triennial assessment. This tool is the only comprehensive, free tool available for Wisconsin SFAs at this time. The report card is attached and available at the Local Wellness Policy webpage.
