Data About Youth Suicide

Suicide is the second most common cause of death after car accidents for Wisconsin youth. Thirteen percent of youth reported seriously considering suicide. The statistics are alarming, and shed light on a topic that is not often discussed.

Helping schools understand the number of students at risk for suicide and their characteristics is the goal of DPI’s newly released Wisconsin 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey Special Topic: Suicide and Help Seeking. This document presents an in-depth look at data from suicide-related questions on the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey.
