High Cost Special Ed & Other WiSFiP Updates

Thursday, April 8, 2021

The Wisconsin School Finance Portal (WiSFiP) has been updated this morning to add the High Cost Special Education Aid claiming module as well as other security and framework updates. Users will now see a fiscal year dropdown in the upper right corner of the screen.

Claims for High Cost Special Education Aid are now open. The due date is Friday, April 30, 2021. If you have WiSFiP access for School Level Reporting, that does not grant you access for High Cost Special Education. Details are in the next section.

Security Updates

Security in WiSFiP is based upon two types of users:

  • Student Data Administrators have access to school finance reporting that involves the use of protected student data, such as High Cost Special Ed or Chapter 220 (the latter for Milwaukee-area districts).
  • Finance Data Administrators have access to all other school finance reporting in WiSFiP, which currently includes only School Level Reporting.

Users must be authorized for these roles separately by their District Security Administrators through WISEhome.

Information on getting access for High Cost Special Education Aid is available on our webpage for that program.

Potential Time-Out Issue

Users may find themselves logged out from WiSFiP if it is left open and inactive in a browser/browser tab. If you find that the page expires or the menus stop populating, you should be able to log back in through the main WiSFiP link.

Bug Reporting

If you notice what you believe to be a bug in WiSFiP, please email Scott Huelsman with as much detail as you can—what you were doing, what the result was, and a screenshot if possible. The more detail you provide, the easier it is for us to track down potential bugs.

UPDATE

A bug has been identified where the banner message about the data years loads incorrectly if certain screens and menus are selected in just the right order. When you begin to enter student data it should read, "2019-2020 Data for Aid Paid in 2020-2021," so long as the correct data year (2019-2020) is selected in the upper right corner dropdown. The bug causes the aid year to be repeated: "2020-2021 Data for Aid Paid in 2020-2021."

We are tracking down the bug, but so long as the dropdown has 2019-2020 selected, your claim data will be entered correctly.
