High Cost Special Education Aid Claims

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The interim claim form for 2019-20 claims of High Cost Special Education Aid (based on 2018-19 students) is now available on the High Cost page. The form is an Excel workbook that must be completed and then submitted using DPI’s secure file transfer system. It is based on the revision to PI 30 which is currently in its final stage of review.

Claims no longer start with the $11,900 base. Instead, costs like cross-categorical instruction are entered as “programs” for which daily rates are calculated in the workbook. Child-specific costs are listed separately, and the workbook includes data from your 2018-19 PI-1505-SE Special Education Annual Report.

In addition to the claim form, the High Cost Special Education Aid page also includes a webinar recording that walks you through the claim form step by step, updated guidance, and more.

Claims are due on May 1, 2020. In light of the current situation, we will review the status of claims in mid-April and determine whether or not it needs to be extended.
