The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) grant program, part of the CARES Act, provides funds to help LEAs respond to changes in student needs due to COVID-19. DPI is awarding more than $158 million in ESSER grant funds directly to school districts and other LEAs. Allowable costs from March 13, 2020 onward may be claimed under this program.

ESSER grant applications are expected to be open in WISEgrants in July. In the meantime, DPI’s ESSER Grant Program webpage continues to have resources added, including an ESSER FAQ and more about equitable participation for private schools.

If your school district hasn’t yet started to have equitable participation discussions with your local private schools, now is the time! As a reminder, DPI will be following the CARES Act as enacted into law by using the Title I allocation formula for equitable participation.
