SFS Early September 2023 Updates

Thursday, September 7, 2023

The SFS Team hopes that this message finds you well and that your district has had a successful start to the school year. We know summers are a busy time for business officials, culminating in the completion of multiple projects as staff and students are away.

Thank you to WASBO for hosting the New School Administrators and Support Staff Conference in Sun Prairie on September 6-7, 2023. We value the partnership and the opportunity to on-board new school administrators and support staff.

A couple important reminders and due dates for school business managers:

  • District Aid Certification (formerly the PI-1505 AC) was due September 1
  • Annual Report (formerly the PI-1505) is due September 22

Thank you for the collaborative efforts as we transition to WDF/WiSFiP for all financial reporting. If you have questions or having trouble completing reports, please contact Matt Baier . We understand that completing these reports this year is a different process and involves a learning curve. We appreciate your feedback during this transition as it has informed our on-going development and allowed us to better support school districts. Our primary goals with the projects are to reduce error through automation and lighten the burden on districts of providing the required data for financial reporting.

Two specific process improvements in completing these reports are the reduction in the number of validations (errors) and in the number of addenda requiring additional data collection. As a reminder, the validations apply to both the District Aid Certification and Annual Report, and must be cleared prior to submission of both reports. Addenda need to be completed prior to the submitting of the Annual Report.

In addition to resolving validations and addenda, the Auditor Ending Fund Balances and Auditor Aid Certification will need to be completed by your auditor and approved by DPI.

Lastly, a reminder that Third Friday Pupil Count is next week, Friday, September 15.

We understand that this is a busy time of year. The required DPI reports allow us to calculate October 15 General Aid which will be released this year on Friday, October 13.
